The 14th edition of IPL is about to begin From 9th April, and fans, including me, are counting days to watch it. Though everybody is aware of what IPL is. But for those who don’t know, the Indian Premier League (IPL) is a form of cricket introduced in India in 2007. It is a 20-20 cricket league in which eight teams participate and compete in a given format to become the ultimate champion. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is the founder of the league. Since its arrival in 2007, it happens every year somewhere between March and May. So far, 13 seasons of IPL have satisfactorily entertained the fans. Now, IPL 14 is all set to arrive on 9th April 2021. Generally, IPL is played in India. However, last year the tournament took place in UAE. But IPL 14 will happen in India over six venues- Bengaluru, Ahmedabad, Mumbai Chennai, Delhi, and Kolkata. The tournament will kick off from 9th April 2021 with the match between Mumbai Indians Vs. Royal Challengers Bangalore in Chennai. Well, it doesn’t matter where the IPL takes place this year due to the coronavirus pandemic. BCCI has announced that no fans are allowed inside the stadium. I know! It’s disheartening, friends. But this year we will only get to watch it on Tv in our homes. The whole tournament is scheduled to happen between 9 April and 30 May 2021. Well, read till the end to know the complete schedule of IPL 14 and more details.
Is the audience allowed in the stadium?
We Indians are crazy about cricket. It is the most celebrated sport among Indians in every age group. And IPL’s popularity keeps increasing among the masses since its arrival in 2007. However, coronavirus impacted it. Due to covid, last year’s tournament was held closed-door(no audience was allowed inside the stadium). BCCI has announced that this year, the tournament will be played closed -door just like last year, at least for the initial matches. So, yes, friends, this year you won’t be able to watch it in the stadium even when your favorite will play, as the audience is not allowed.

League Stage Round
The league will kick off with this round. It is played in a round-robin format. Each team will play two matches with every other team. That means each team will play 14 matches in total. Out of eight, the top four teams will play the second round called IPL Playoffs(second stage). Let us see how the top four teams are selected from the League stage.
The team that wins the maximum number of matches during the league will be given top positions. If some of the teams have gained equal points and equal wins in the league, then the team whose net run rate is better will be higher. If the teams will still at par, then the number of wickets taken in the league will be considered to decide which team will be placed higher.By considering all the above three criteria, if the teams are still equal, then the team’s place will be decided by drawing lots.
Now, the top four teams will enter the second stage called IPL Playoffs Format.
IPL Playoffs Format
It comprises two Qualifiers and one Eliminator match. In this stage, the top two teams will be given an advantage. They will get two chances to make their place in the final. Qualifier 1: In this round, the top two teams from the league stage will compete against each other to make it to the Final. The winner will reach the Final, and the Loser will wait for the winning team from the Eliminator round to secure its place in the final. Eliminator: In this round, the third number and fourth number teams from the league phase compete with each other. The Loser of this round will be eliminated from the tournament. Qualifier 2: In this round, the Loser of Qualifier 1 round and the winner of the Eliminator round compete against each other. The winner will go to the finals to play with the winner of the Qualifier 1 round. If the match ties in any of the above stages, the winner will be determined by Super Over. If the Super Over is not possible due to any condition, then the winner will be decided by considering the result from the league phase. The team that holds the higher position in the League table will be considered the winner. Finals: This round determines the winner of the whole tournament. In this, winners of Qualifier 1 and Qualifier 2 compete with each other. The winner will get the ultimate trophy.
