Da Brat was born Shawntae Harris on April 14, 1974, in Joliet, Illinois, United States. She was raised in the West Side district of Chicago, where she spent most of her childhood. Da Brat’s father’s name is David Ray McCoy, an entrepreneur, while her mother Nadine Brewer used to work as a bus driver. However, her parents never married so Brat grew up in two different households.
